Design Portland Exhibition
To memorialize and celebrate Portland Botanical Gardens’ successful negotiation of a “Prospective Purchaser Agreement” for the McCormick & Baxter Superfund Site, LND LAB curated an exhibition at Design Portland and hosted an event series that featured a keynote lecture by Scot Medbury, panel discussions, and opening/closing parties.
The exhibition consisted of three collections: posters of site analysis, design research, and master planning; a live plant display along the central table; and mass timber furnishing prototypes surrounding the central table.
The posters illustrate the history and complexity of the McCormick & Baxter Superfund Site, in contrast with the unique narrative and materiality of each plant. Furnishings connect these two opposing elements by showcasing the potential for design exhibition, prototyping, and temporary installation to guide garden creation in the first phase.
